Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Prakash Diwas Celebration

"Waho Waho Gobing Singh Ji....Aape Guru Chela". The prakash diwas of the tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Sangatsar Gurudwara, Nicosia on the 6th of January 2008. Sangat had flocked from all parts of the country to be a part of the celebration.
The day marked the end of the "Sahej Path", followed by two Kavita session and a thaddi session by the famous Thaddi. Sangat was mesmerized by their thaddi session and the knowledge of Sikh history. You always want to listen more from them.
While some sangat were listening to the Gurbani and kavita/thaddi, some were busy doing the sewa for the Langar. "Sewa nu milda mewa .. kar ke koi vekh lo". It was really amazing to see the zeal in the sangat doing the sewa. While some were busy making sabzi and dals, others were busy making the chapaties.
The "Ardaas" marked the end of the program followed by the "Guru ka Langar".

The sangat number is growing everyday and on a Guruparab occasion, the place becomes too crowded. There is a need for a bigger place. Wish that with Waheguru's kirpa, the Cyprus authorities will soon approve the construction of a bigger building for the Gurudwara sahib.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Prakash Diwas Celebration

Guru Nanak dev Ji's prakash diwas was celebrated with great religious fervour at Sangatsar Gurudwara, Nicosia on 25th November 2007. The weather was not very good on the 25th. There were light showers, but that couldn't refrain the sangat from coming to the Gurudwara to seek the Guru's blessing. With every such celebration there has been an increase in the size of the sangat.

The day marked the end of the "Sahej Paath", followed by Ardaas. Two Thaddi sessions were organized - One by a group of three Sikh men and the other by a group of three Sikh ladies. A reflection was made at the history when Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born. There is a famous line that when Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born - "Mitti Dhund .. Jag Channan Hoya". Both these Thaddi sessions were amazing. They narrated few sakhies of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in their own unique style. Also in line was a Kavita - in praise of Guru Nanak dev Ji by a Sikh lady.
The entire program was really very good. The end of the day was marked by "Guru Ka langar".

Vaisakhi Program

The following are the pictures from the Vaisakhi Program at Gurudwara Sangatsar Sahib in Nicosia , Cyprus.

Gurudwara Sangatsar Sahib

A Gurudwara - "Gurudwara Sangatsar Sahib" has come up in Nicosia, Cyprus. The Sikh community in Cyprus felt the need for a Gurudwara where sangat could gather and seek Guru's blessing. The coming up a Gurudwara is the relentless efforts of few settled families in Cyprus. Cyprus is an orthodox Greek community where setting up a place of worship of other community/religion is really difficult. However, with Cyprus moving into European Union things have and will change.

The Gurudwara in its present state can accommodate around 100 people. Bhai Inderpal Singh ji is the Granthi, who besides his normal work schedule takes care of the the holy place. Guru's bani is recited in the morning and evening. There is a special program on Sunday which includes the recitation of "Sukhmani Sahib", followed by "Anand Sahib", "Ardaas" and Guru Ka Langar. The program lasts from 9am till 1pm.

The Gurudwara also celebrates guruparabs/festivals. Recently, the festival of "Vaisakhi" was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Sangat from across the island had come to seek Guru's blessing.

There is an upcoming celebration on 9th September: First prakash diwas of "Guru Granth Sahib Ji".

The Gurudwara can be reached at:
